I always love this time of year! As the year draws to a close, it is a time of reflection, a time to review accomp- lishments as well as that which was not accomplished. It is a time to prepare for a new year and new beginnings and a time to dream.
What is your dream? More importantly, what is your dream for 2012? Is it to lose weight? Yet again? If you are like 41% of those surveyed, your #1 New Year’s Resolution is to Lose Weight.
Did you know that, according to an article in Consumerism Commentary, only 8 – 15% of those who make resolutions keep them. One researcher even claims that only 3% of resolutions survive the first month of the year. Dose this sound like someone you know – intimately?
Where will you be a month from now and, more importantly, a year from now? Will you have lost the weight and kept it off or will you be setting the same goal again for 2013?
A few years ago I was where you may be now. My number one New Year’s Resolution for years running was to lose weight….and yes, I usually lost the weight only to gain it all back and then some. Can you relate?
Then, one day, I realized that I was using food as a stress reliever and that my refrigerator was one of the “rooms” I visited the most in my home. Not good. That day I woke up disgusted with how I looked, and I also knew a ‘new resolution’ was not going to take care of this. I was done with ‘dieting’. And I was done with resolutions that I did not accomplish.
Finally, instead of making a new resolution, I DECIDED to change how I approached life and food. I lost 25 lbs the first year and an additional 20 lbs and 30 inches the next. I now exercise regularly. I am happy. I feel beautiful and sexy. I am in the best shape of my life and I enjoy and love life! I eat the foods I love not out of ‘hunger’ but out of enjoyment when I am truly hungry.
I wish I had had a coach. It took me a year and a half to get the weight off and change my habits. For you, it does not need to take this long.
Are you ready to get the weight off for good this time? Are you ready to DECIDE to finally accomplish that goal in 2012? Yes? Good.
So how do you set yourself up for success with your DECISION? Instead of setting up goals that are idealistic and not obtainable, set up your DECISION to be realistic, with goals that you can measure and review. Know that feeling beautiful and sexy is not about diets or losing weight as much as it is about how one feels inside and how one handles food and stress.
For each one of us, there is a desert to travel. A star to discover. And a being within ourselves to bring to life.
